Welcome to the Spirit of Photography Community!

This Community was established in order to share our passion for photography and travel.  There are many photography forums and websites online; however, most of them are oriented towards reviewing or discussing new equipment, or teaching photoshop.  Very few are oriented towards discussing the "art" of photography.  Like many other photographers, we are constantly searching for inspiration, and striving to improve the creative aspects of our photography.  Hopefully this Community will provide a comfortable gathering place for like-minded photographers.

You are most welcome to stop in as a guest, browse through the forums and view the galleries that are open to the general public.  If you would like to post in the forums or galleries, please register as a member.  Membership is free, and provides the benefit of a "member gallery" that you can use to share images with friends and family and our photography community. 

We encourage you to join in the discussions, share your images, participate in the weekly assignments and join us for our "outings" if you are able.  We guarantee that if you actively participate on this website, your photography will improve.

Weekly Assignment Update, 27 July 2010

Congratulations to Dave Leiker whose Corporate Woods - Overland Park image tied for People's Choice and was selected as Editor's Choice for Technical Merit for the "Architecture" assignment.  The optical illusion created by the reflection of the clouds in the glass of the building was very effective at engaging the viewer's mind and causing them to examine the image in more detail.

Congratulations also to Lars whose Esslingen von Oben image was selected as Editor's Choice for Artistic Merit.  The beautiful warm light Lars captured in this image highlighted the detail of the rooftops and made the scene appear so real that it brought back memories of early morning walks through similar cities in Europe.  More than any of the other images submitted for the assignment, this image made me want to visit this fascinating location.

Congratulations also to Michele Bollhalder whose Little Bridge image tied for People's Choice.  Michele composed this image very effectively to showcase the design of the bridge, and the conversion to black and white changed some potentially distracting blown highlights into an effective leading light that serves to draw the viewer deep into the scene.  Very well done Michele.

Please read the Results and Feedback for the "Architecture" Assignment in the forum for additional feedback on the assignment. Please vote for your favorite image from the "Discovery" assignment.  The voting closes at midnight Mountain Time (GMT - 07:00) on Sunday, 1 August 2010. The assignment for the week of 26 July - 1 August 2010 is "Silhouettes."  Please see the assignment description in the forum for additional details.
